50 Titles per Year Book Club - 15th Reading - Enterprise One to One

This is another title from the my course book list: Principles of Professional Sales at my Business Fundamentals Certificate Program at UCLA Extension. This book list is very interesting, it is like sales B2C, self motivation and a little old school theories. The titles in this list are slightly outdated and I noticed this when I was searching to purchase them online. Just a few of them had an "e-version", most where hard cover paper books. So I had to buy a little pile of books to fulfill my shelves. I avoid buying printed books because I move in a lot, so I have to carry big boxes of books everywhere. Now I prefer having the book on my kindle or ipad.

Not only the book is a little outdated, but the theories there are outdated too. It is very specific, in a consultative tone, and probably those techniques work for determined types of businesses today. Because I believe this book is from early 2000's or 90's, so they did not have youtube, spotify, zoom etc. Especially post-pandemic, a lot of stuff changed. Some point the author got it right, about online videos and all, however, in other forecasts they failed, such as a online web base to purchase music, very different from the broadcast that is common today. I will probably not read this book again unless it is a requirement for another class and I do not recommend unless it is for studies purposes.

50 Titles per Year Book Club - 13th Reading - Go Big Now - Julia Pimsleur

I think this is probably the best book I've read this year. Julia Pimsleur brought her game to a new level. After "Million Dollar Women", she arrives with this brand new book, "Go Big Now". Now, working as coach, she is more experienced, her writing is more straightforward and clear. She writes as she is talking to a client or even a friend, it's a pretty direct conversation with basis steps for your to bring your gamer to a new level too.

This book is for entrepreneurs, or business enthusiasts or anyone who needs just a little bit of impulsion to start something new, a new business, a new project, or any endeavor that you have been putting out for too long and know that you can make it happen.

Julia Pimsleur has a podcast where she interviews entrepreneurs who start small and became very successful. She, herself, is an entrepreneur after founding her multi-million dollar company "Little Pim'. After quitting her company, getting a divorce and becoming a coach and writer, Julia Pimsleur gives wise practical advices for you to follow your pathways strongly and with resilience to deal with failure.

I recommend this book for anyone who needs a little bit of inspiration to start something new. Whether it's your own business, or a project at your company, or something individual and personal, this is the time to Go Big Now!

50 Titles per year book club - 12th Reading - Radical Candor - Kim Scott

This book by Kim Scott is very interesting. I don't remember where I got the recommendation to read it from, but I got in on my Ibooks and I read it in about two weeks. She is very experienced, she worked for Google AND Apple and was very successful.
The book is about leadership, and how to communicate to your subordinates and you superiors in a proper manner, always candid. She presents her methods for feedback, and how to act upon many different types of conflicts and solve many problems.

The "Radical Candor" method is one that is based on the prioritization of the right things exposed on the right time and in the proper manner to the right people. Not everything has be said all the time, and there are ways to conduct different types of situations as a good leader. It is a delicate balance to keep your team engaged and motivated focus on difficult tasks and goals. Therefore, a skilled leadership thrives in an environment of fast paced work and dynamic structure such as Google and Apple.
Kim Scott just released another book called "Just Work - Get Sh*t done" that I am looking forward to read soon. I don't like the bad word, but usually the sequels of the books are always good. Also, after this launching, Radical Candor was included in the Kindle Unlimited plan. Enjoy it!

50 titles per year Book Club - 11th Reading - Building a Winning Organization - Dylan Stafford

This is another title by Dylan Stafford, the Assistant Dean and Admissions Director for the FEMBA Program at UCLA Anderson. This title is mainly about the FEMBA Program, from "year zero", when potential candidates are still applying and learning about the program, to the graduation, passing through the Super Saturdays, when they have interviews with other students, and also their GAP (Global Access Program) when students can travel to another country to study business there for some time, and finally the Fembapalooza (my favorite!) their mega event at UCLA campus. Dylan makes a parallel with Harry Potter and Hogwarts (but I think UCLA Anderson is better!) and this makes the story even more appealing.

Me as an applicant at UCLA Anderson, I have to admit that I simply loved this book, it was like a little sample of the program, something that you don't find on the website, or even in the recruiting sessions. But even if you are not an applicant, it worths to read Dylan's story, he is a very experienced professional and an amazing person. He sent the book to me with a note, and that felt very special. I had the chance to interview him for my Toastmasters Club speech, and he gave me great insights about reading, writing and school applications. I am very grateful for that and I hope to meet him again soon. Meanwhile, we can keep reading his books!

To start the year with inspiration and some politics, I listen to Barack Obama's book "A Promised Land", especially in a year...
